Henry Rollins - Harmony In My Head

Every Tuesday the alternative icon that is Henry Rollins let's it rip on live radio - and every week Angela over at the Rollins Archive posts the show for you and me to download.
"On May 17, 2004, Rollins began hosting a weekly radio show, Harmony in My Head on Los Angeles' Indie 103.1 radio. The show aired every Monday evening, with Rollins playing a variety of music ranging from early rock and jump blues to hard rock, blues rock, folk rock, punk rock, metal and rockabilly, but also touching on rap, jazz, world music, reggae, classical music and more. Harmony In My Head often emphasizes B-sides, live bootlegs and other rarities, and nearly every episode has featured a song by British group The Fall.
Rollins put the show on a short hiatus to undertake a spoken-word tour in early 2005. Rollins posted playlists and commentary on-line; these lists were expanded with more information and published in book form as Fanatic! through 2.13.61 in November 2005. In late 2005, Rollins announced the show's return and began the first episode by playing the show's namesake Buzzcocks song. As of 2008, the show continues each week despite Rollins' constant touring with new pre-recorded shows between live broadcasts".

When I first start I'm hard to stop... Here's another new spoken word show by Henry Rollins! This time at the Moore Theatre in Seattle, Washington on Halloween, October 31st this year. This show has way better quality than the previous two, but the first 30 seconds are missing - no big deal. Enjoy!
A big thanks to Angela for pointing me in the direction of these new shows!

Henry Rollins - Keswick Theater, Glenside, Pennsylvania 06.10.2007

As a quick follow up to my Rollins post earlier today - here's a spoken word show from the Keswick Theater in Glenside, Pennsylvania on October 6th this year. This show is both longer and of better quality than the one posted earlier, but don't expect to be blown away by some high fidelity recording - I would rate it as a good C+. As I stated in my previous post Hank will be taking his Provoked tour overseas in 2008 - starting in Gothenburg, Sweden January 14th. You can see his tour plans HERE.

Henry Rollins - The Canal Club, Richmond, Virginia 29.09.2007

It's been a looong time since I've posted any Rollins spoken word shows, but here's a new one from The Canal Club in Richmond, Virginia on September 29th 2007. His ongoing Provoked tour will also take him back over to us good folks in Europe early next year.
The sound quailty on this one is pretty bad, but it's absolutely listenable.

Don Bajema, Lydia Lunch, Hubert Selby Jr. & Henry Rollins - Our Fathers Who Aren't In Heaven (1990)

Out of print compilation of spoken word bits from Don Bajema, Lydia Lunch, Hubert Selby Jr. and Henry Rollins. Released on Lydia Lunch's Widowspeak label back in 1990.
The two main Henry Rollins bits can be found on the album Human Butt, the other two appear in written form in his books. But the combination of Rollins, Bajema, Lunch and the great Hubert Selby Jr. makes this a compilation well worth downloading - and/or buying from eBay or Gemm.

All artwork included.

Henry Rollins - Eric the Pilot (1999)

Next up in my campaign to spread the gospel of Henry Rollins is the album Eric the Pilot, recorded in Australia in 1997 - released on 21361 in 1999.
This will probably be the only officially released spoken word album by Rollins that I'll upload, since it's out of print and hard to come by.
"Hilarious and engaging as usual, this release from Rollins is a one-hour story of his adventures with a slightly off-kilter pilot and adventures in the Midwest of America. Like all of his other spoken word releases, it is honest and funny. Definitely for fans of the man's work; it will also entertain anyone who likes a little subversive humor (and doesn't mind profanity)."

Henry Rollins - Rival Hotel, Stockholm 18.01.2005

It took some time, but here's another Henry Rollins spoken word show for your enjoyment!
Back in January 2005 my older brother and I traveled to Stockholm, Sweden to witness the pure genius that is Henry Rollins.
This is (hopefully) the only hard evidence of that trip - a fantastic spoken word show featuring Hank speaking for well over three hours. Recorded on a portable minidisc player - not the best quality recording, but far from the worst.
It's great fun, and well worth downloading!

Elvis Presley - Having Fun With Elvis On Stage (1974)

Having Fun with Elvis on Stage is a 1974 live album from Elvis Presley that Presley's manager, Colonel Tom Parker, had RCA put out.
Having Fun With Elvis on Stage is considered by many critics to be the worst live album Elvis or anyone else has ever put out. This is because there were no song performances on it, only tape byplay recorded between songs - Elvis telling jokes, requesting a drink of water, and demonstrating eleven different ways to pronounce "Memphis." Though it clearly said "A Talking Album Only" on the cover, Having Fun with Elvis on Stage was nonetheless packaged and marketed as a legitimate concert album.
Parker was seeking to add to the collection of merchandise sold at Presley's concerts. RCA owned the rights to Elvis' music, but Parker discovered he could sell an album of Elvis simply talking. Someone took 37 minutes of Elvis' stage banter and spliced it together. The banter on the album does not follow any set pattern or purpose. "If one had any reason at all to believe that Col. Parker put more than an afternoon into assembling this album," writes the AllMusic Guide, "one might suspect he was aiming for a purposefully dada-esque approach, but apathy and ineptitude seems to be the only realistic explanations for this record's haphazard structure."
It managed to make it up to #130 on the Billboard album charts.
